Strong for Every Season of Motherhood.

Motherload at Dreamtown

‍

Building Strength for the Season You’re In - and Everything that Comes Next.

The Motherload class is an exercise program specialized for pregnant and postpartum women. Our mission is to encourage adaptability during pregnancy and long-term athleticism after childbirth to move into motherhood with strong and capable bodies. Motherload is a supportive environment for women of all fitness backgrounds to build strength, while adapting to the changes that the female body experiences during these seasons. With an emphasis on core and pelvic floor work, and knowledgeable coaching, we are committed to finding a way to help you move well.

‍

You are not fragile, you are not invincible, you are ADAPTABLE

At Motherload, we know that pregnancy and postpartum are different for everybody, and that these differences require a knowledgeable and individualized approach. The structure and duration of the class is designed to allow for as much 1-on-1 time as possible, and working closely with the coach on your individual goals and the symptoms you are experiencing is highly encouraged.

The exercises that we perform in our classes have many options for adapting, scaling, and modification, with a coach invested in finding something right for you to make it possible to move. We are focusing on the present, on the body that you are currently in, with an eye on the future, to what you would like to be doing in the next chapter. We are building the fundamentals that will have you ready to run, hike, bike, ski, and carry toddlers all over the mountains.

‍

What sort of workout does the class entail?

While Motherload is hosted by Dreamtown Crossfit, this is not a crossfit class. Each 1.5 hour class will include time set aside for core and pelvic floor work, and then will include weightlifting, mobility, and circuit work, or some combination thereof. Exercises will not all be pregnancy/postpartum specific, rather, we will be focusing on how to perform traditional exercise movements with adaptations to facilitate changes in our bodies. We will learn and practice the tools for adapting to the body that we are in to perform exercise and gain confidence. This class is open to women of all fitness backgrounds and includes lots of opportunity for personalized help and learning.

‍

What makes this class special?

Pregnant and postpartum women are grossly underserved in the fitness community. It wasn't long ago that the advice for pregnant women was to not lift anything over 20lbs and not get their heart-rate above 140. While this advice has long since been debunked, it can still be hard to find exactly what pregnant and postpartum women should be doing, and how to best manage symptoms that can come up such as diastasis recti, prolapse, incontinence, etc. Discussing these symptoms and looking for adaptations from a traditional coach can be awkward, or met with frustrating responses, such as “do what you have always done”, “listen to your body”, or even, “when my wife was pregnant, she could still do power cleans, so you can too.” At Motherload, we know that even the most athletic women can encounter difficulties in performing her desired activities during this season. We know how frustrating it is to be unable to do what you expected and not know about any alternatives. This class offers knowledgeable adaptations to manage symptoms, tools that can help you get back to doing what you love, and the understanding and first-hand experience of a coach who has been through this herself.
